Hailing from Toronto originally, Mateo has made a name for himself as a multi-hyphenate artist in both the Canadian and NYC theatre scenes. As a performer, Mateo appeared in Million Dollar Quartet (Arts Club Vancouver) and Forever Plaid (Starvox Entertainment) before moving to the "other side of the table." Composer / Lyricist credits include Tommy Rhodes (2024 Toronto World Premiere), The Opening (2024 Dramatists' Guild NYC reading), and The Accountant (2022 Canada Council for the Arts grant recipient). Music Direction credits include Bring It On: the Musical (2025 Canadian regional premiere), and Rooted with Music & Lyrics by Jewelle Blackman of Hadestown fame. He also runs the Music Theatre Theory YouTube Channel, where he analyzes the music theory behind his favourite showtunes.
